    Description

    I am offering for sale this rare antique advertising poster marked as follows:
    COPYRIGHT 1908
    WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.
    AMERICAN LITHOGRAPH CO., N.Y.
    Dimensions: 18 1/4" x 26"
    Condition: Acceptable with moderate water stains vertically down center of picture and more significant stains along lower right corner which extend upward from lower edge of poster about 3". The edges are also dark around the perimeter of the poster but will be hidden once it is reframed.
    The poster has a 1 1/2" long tear on the right edge slightly below center.
    Back of poster is discolored and darkened.
    This poster was removed from the rustic primitive wooden frame seen in one of the photos. FRAME NOT INCLUDED IN SALE. Poster was photographed while laying on the back of a larger framed picture so the brown paper seen around the perimeter of the poster is paper on the back of another picture.
    In 1908 this poster was produced with a self-framed edge with a slogan that read SHOOT THEM AND AVOID TROUBLE. The slogan was controversial and Winchester quickly ceased production of this advertisement. Winchester reisduef this advertisement in 1936 without the slogan. I do not know if this in an original 1908 that has been trimmed or a 1936 produced without the slogan, however please note the 1908 copyright date on the poster.
