The Queens Beast Collection of coins from the Royal Mint were struck to commemorate Queen Elizabeths status as the longest-reigning monarch in British history. On September 9, 2015, she surpassed her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria as the longest-reigning British monarch, and the Queens Beast coins commemorate this moment by reimaging the 10 mythical beast statues present during her 1953 coronation.

Royal Mint Engraver Jody Clark is the man behind all 10 designs in the Queens Beast Collection from the mint. Clark not only recreated these mythical beasts as captured in statue form at Queen Elizabeth IIs coronation, he also developed the fifth-generation effigy of Her Majesty in 2015 for British coinage. At just 33 years old, he is the youngest to do so.
Proof British Silver Queens Beast Lion Coins are specially made with distinguished sharpness in detail and a mirrored surface. Each proof coin starts as a specially-made planchet with polished dies, and are produced for collectors rather than investors or general circulation.
The obverse of all 2017 5 oz Proof British Silver Queens Beast Lion Coins features the fifth-generation depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is seen in right-profile relief with surrounding engravings of the face value of the coin, her name, and the shorthand Latin phrase D.G. Reg F.D.
On the reverse is the massive Lion of England. The primary heraldic creature of the United Kingdom, the Lion of England is captured wearing a huge crown atop its powerful frame as it stands on its hind legs behind the nations heraldic shield. With one forepaw resting on the shield, the other is raised and ready to strike to defend the kingdom.
