That is why the Royal Dutch Mint strikes two commemorative coins: a 2,5 Euro in coincard and a 10 Euro Silver Prooflike, commissioned by the Central Bank of Malta.
The Malta 10 Euro ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Silver Prooflike is all about The Lord of the Rings, one of the most successful franchises ever made, based on the books of J.R.R. Tolkien. These books evolve around the hobbit Frodo Baggins, who gets possession of a special coin. This is the instrument from the Dark Lord Sauron, who will do anything in his power to get ahold of the ring. Frodo Baggins and his friends are therefore send on an adventure through Middle Earth.
The obverse of the coin shows, in the middle, the White tree of Gondor, the symbol of the continent Gondor, which brought luck, according to the inhabitants. The tree has a color detail. Around the tree is the famous text that is also on the ring. The text says: ‘One Ring to rule them all, one Ring to find them, one Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them’. The upper letters are embossed, the bottom letters are a gold color. On the reverse is the logo of the Central Bank of Malta, the privy mark and the year of issue.
