    Description

Original 1960 Aretha Franklin Howard Hi School Concert Poster - Preaching and Singing
Original window card poster printed on card stock for a concert in Chattanooga, Mon. Apr. 4, "Something Different, Preaching and Singing... Rev. C.L. Franklin and his daughter Aretha Franklin of Detroit, Staple Singers of Chicago" and "Miss Sammie Bryant The Little Lady With The Big Voice". Printed by "Southern Poster Printing Co., Atlanta, GA.". Measures 22" x 28".  58 year old poster from 1960 with no restoration in very good condition, with some ink smudges/fingerprints, wear to edges and corners.
This striking and historically important poster shows eighteen year old Aretha Franklin touring with her father, the Rev. C.L. Franklin.  This was a pivotal moment in her career.   (Stevie Wonder speaks of his early childhood attending Reverend Franklin's church services and hearing Aretha's voice taking every song as it was her own.)  Although a success on the gospel music circuit, Franklin decided that she wanted to record pop music. Her father allowed her to travel to New York, where she signed with Columbia Records.  By 1967 she was signed with Atlantic Records and her career blossomed where she  became deemed The Queen of Soul.
Aretha had 20 No. 1 hits, including "Respect", "Chain of Fools" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman".  She was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and undisputed one of the greatest musical artists of all time.
This historic poster is for the serious collector and belongs in a museum or with Aretha's friends and family.
