    65th Anniversary of Peanuts
2015 marks 65 years since the first Peanuts comic strip debuted in seven national newspapers October 2, 1950.
The popularity of Peanuts quickly soared, and it became one of the longest running, most popular comic strips in the world.
The successful career of Charles Schulz is starkly contrasted with his character Charlie Brown, who failed at everything he attempted.
The premise of Peanuts was simple, and everyone who has been a kid can identify with Charlie and the gang.
Schulz believed that he put a little of himself in all of the characters—and he used a wide range of humor in endlessly creative situations.
Ultimately, he found a way to connect with his audience like no other cartoonist could.
In 2000, when the final comic strip was printed, Peanuts appeared daily in 2,600 newspapers, reaching an estimated 355 million readers in 75 countries.
Even then, Charlie Brown never got his kick in.
“Oh, no! Definitely not! I couldn’t have Charlie Brown kick that football; that would be a terrible disservice to him after nearly half a century.” —Charles Schulz
65th Anniversary Snoopy and Woodstock Coin
This coin featuring Snoopy and Woodstock was created to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Charles Schulz’s world famous Peanuts©.
It is an officially licensed Peanuts© product. This coin was struck by the Pobjoy Mint and issued for the British Virgin Islands.
The Pobjoy Mint is the largest privately owned Mint in Europe and they have been in business since 1965.
They are based in England and coins produced by them can be found around the world, although they are best known for their non-circulating commemorative coins.
Snoopy and Woodstock Silver Coin Composition
This commemorative Snoopy and Woodstock silver coin weighs in at a little over 28g.
That means that the total weight of the coin is a few grams under 1 Troy oz. The silver used to make this coin is sterling, so it has a fineness of .925.
Silver 65th Anniversary Snoopy and Woodstock Coin Design
Since this coin was issued for the British Virgin Islands, it displays Queen Elizabeth II on one side. This depiction of Queen Elizabeth II is a bit larger than what is typically seen on other coins and looks great. The design is finely detailed and has excellent contrast. This side of the coin reads “BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS,” “QUEEN ELIZABETH II,” and “2015.”
The opposite side of this fine silver coin shows Snoopy and Woodstock. Snoopy is taking a break on top of his dog house as he’s been known to do. Woodstock is also taking the opportunity to rest on top of Snoopy’s feet. The design on this side has been colorized, so Snoopy, his dog house, and Woodstock all look just like they do in the comic strip. The occasion the coin was created for is mentioned on this side with the inscription “65TH ANNIVERSARY OF PEANUTS.” This side also has the denomination inscribed, “.”
