On 24th October 2003, Concorde makes her final flight. For twenty seven years the supersonic aircraft has fascinated people around the world and it was a sad day when British Airways and Air France announced that she would be permanently grounded from Autumn 2003, bringing to an end a significant chapter in the history of aviation.
To celebrate almost three decades of supersonic travel, the Royal Mint, together with the Channel Islands of Alderney, has issued a special commemorative Silver Proof £10 Ten Pound coin. Designed by Royal Mint Engraver Emma Nobel, the reverse features an image of Concorde in flight, superimposed upon an interpretation of the plane's undercarriage. The obverse shows Raphael Maklouf's elegant portrait of Her Majesty the Queen.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
Why is a Certified coin a better investment?
PCGS & NGC are the main two impartial Numismatic Grading Services in the world and is a guarantee that the coin is genuine and has been graded accurately and professionally.
The sonically sealed solid plastic slabb is individually numbered so that the details of the coin(s) can be verified on a central database, and is also tamperproof.
In addition, the coin is protected from handling and keeps the coin(s) condition and finish long term if looked after which can be detrimental to the value once sold.
