Description
1826 Great Britain, Historical MedalDeath of Sir Walter Scott. Diameter 62mm, Thickness 6mm, Bronze
From S. Parker's "Great Men" medal series
Edge: BARDORUM CITHARAS PATRIO QUI REDDIDIT ISTRO
Mint State Details, Mount Removed, Rim nicks
A crusty original, mint state, hockey puck of a medal that was mounted at 6:00 on the edge, probably in order to be displayed on a pedestal. The mount has been removed and the hole in the rim filled. The piece is unworn with rich, glossy brown patina, and a series of scattered nicks and a few handling lines, likely from its time on display. It remains an impressive, high-relief medal of such important subject matter as famous novelist, Sir Walter Scott.
BHM-1260 is one of several impressive, heavy, 62mm bronze medals issued by S. Parker of London in the late 1820s. The series was available through a subscription, and each medal was priced at 1 gold guinea.
